AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

Just to say that we (four friends) went to last night's performance.  We thought it was amazing - the concept, the writing and the acting.  In spite of knowing only too well how it must end, we were gripped by the story.  We thought the representation of Kristallnacht was extremely clever - and moving, as was the whole play.  Congratulations to you all.  I think it justifies a far wider audience.  It educates and entertains (in the widest sense). I would have thought it fitted well into New End's programming and demographic. Thank you for a very special evening.  (Vivienne Lewis )

My husband and I saw this play last night and were very impressed overall.  Being Jewish ourselves, we found it particularly poignant; for us it was very emotional and moving. With knowledge of 'the historic facts', we commend your portrayal of the situation in Europe at that time and your courage in presenting this play in a Church to what I suspect would be in the main a non-Jewish audience.  To attract audiences to learn about history and thus educating them in the background and culture of other peoples is indeed a very worthwhile project.  Our immediate impression was that it was well written and suitably produced.  (Maureen Gorb)

My wife and I were extremely impressed with all aspects of the play.  It is a difficult subject which the script and the acting managed to convey without sentimentality but with sensitivity. The simplicity and intimacy of the staging enhanced the experience.  Congratulations.  (Stephen Drucker)

Holocaust Rule Number One: no story can end well by definition. Holocaust Rule Number two: the stories must still be told because we owe it to the six million victims.  So Kate Glover's JUDENFREI: LOVE AND DEATH IN HITLER'S GERMANY is another memorial to that astonishing fact ...  We see an educated Jewish family in Berlin dealing with the growing menace but still hoping it will pass ...  We are taken through the nightmare of Kristallnacht ...  We see the madness envelop the whole country ...  The only way we can get near this abomination is to see it at the micro-level and try to experience the fear of a single person.  Kate Glover makes a brave attempt to do this  ...  the message is not lost amid the millions of other similar stories from that desperate time.  (The Henley Standard)

A beautiful production which moved me to tears...The writing was so clear, easy to understand and very human.  The acting was superlative and a joy to behold.  What an excellent subject to have chosen - I particularly liked the ending:  I wondered how you would carry out this difficult task - but it rounded if off very beautifully.

I thought the acting was very well done and the production was excellent.  It really evoked an atmosphere of terror.

Wonderfully written and acted.  We need, as a society, a constant reminder of our history, good or bad.

Very touching, informative and still shocking even though we know so much of this terrible period.  Brought down to the personal level of ordinary Berliners, this was a riveting play.  Congratulations to the playwright and ALL the excellent actors.

A superb performance by an excellent cast of a very tragic period in history.  Thank you very much.

Excellent play and acting in particular of all the sisters and the father.  Well done.  Thank you!

Very, very good.  We enjoyed it very much.

The production:  Excellent and instinctive acting, especially Julian

Great atmosphere especially in the Krisstallnacht events.  Costumes very good, and sound.

Well done, carefully cast and executed.  A moving story, which should be played to all sixth forms at school.  (Lady Johnston of Rockport)

I thought it was excellent.   Very natural writing, as I have come to expect.  It held you from the start and flowed very well from scene to scene.   Extremely well acted - convincing and moving.   I thought it was a good device to have the monologue at the end, very movingly delivered in a moment of great stillness, telling what finally happened.   The lady next to me was moved to tears.    The lighting and sound-scapes were also very effective, and the Kristallnacht episode quite chilling.   (David Walker)

On behalf of myself and three family members – Congratulations!  The writing was superb, the acting was so realistic that many in our audience were in tears.  I believe this could be expanded to enable a West End production;  however this Henley Council Chamber was a perfect setting.  I saw a number of the fringe Productions. All were good; however Judenfrei had top spot.  (Clancey Smith, a venue manager at the Henley fringe.)
