About us and the origins of Historia Current Productions Past Productions, Reviews Contact us
25 March 2007 marked the bicentenary of the Royal Assent to William Wilberforce's Act for the Abolition of the Slave Trade. Historia is proud to present a new play charting the struggle of Wilberforce and his fellow campaigners to expose the horrors of slavery and bring the law on to the statute book. Set in the framework of a chilling example of slavery in our times, the play documents the struggle to make the reform a reality in the face of vested interests, blinkered indifference and the competing political issues of the time.

What the audiences are saying:
|
Students from the Royal National College for the Blind with Kate Glover after the performance at Hereford |
: "The
students welcomed the opportunity to think about slavery, both
historically and in the present day. Lots of lively discussion
followed back at college." |
As well as finding the [International Museum of Slavery] itself interesting and thought provoking, we went to the presentation of An African's Blood by Historia Theatre. What a performance! Today I learnt more about the slave trade than I have done in over 50 years. May I thank you and Historia Theatre for allowing us to be a part of your event today.

A message from Anti-Slavery International
"An African's Blood" is a timely production. 2007 marks the Bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade in the British colonies. Such an anniversary provides us with an opportunity to look anew at the Transatlantic Slave Trade which stands apart from both past and present forms of slavery in terms of its scale and brutality; the institutions that supported it and the long term repercussions still felt on three continents. Anti-Slavery International has been campaigning against slavery since 1839 and continues to fight for the freedom of those enslaved in the world today and to address the legacy of slavery. Please join in this fight and sign the black and gold declaration card or go to our website at: www.antislavery.org/2007 and Join the Fight for Freedom.
